Autumn 44 BCE: To Tiro from Cicero the Younger (in Athens)
Cicero's son complains that Tiro hasn't been writing to him enough
Although the excuse you give for the gap in your letters is justified and reasonable, still, please don’t let it happen so often. For although I find out about the Republic from rumours and messengers, and father always writes in detail about his wishes for me, still, I have always been very grateful for a letter from you, written about whatever you want, however small. So, although I have especially missed your letters, don’t just fulfil your duty to write by sending an excuse rather than a constant flow of letters.
Goodbye!
