29 June 44 BCE: To Atticus (at Rome) from Cicero (at Tusculum)
Cicero plans an itinerary for his trip to Greece
Opinions about my journey vary; many come to me. But please, won’t you weigh in on the problem? It’s an important matter. Or do you approve, if I plan to return by January 1st? I feel impartial, except that so long as it causes no offence, I would like to go. I would also like to know the date of the Olympics, and of the Mysteries.1 Of course, as you write, the plan for my journey will be decided by chance. So we should not make any decisions. For I would hate a voyage in winter, and for this reason asked you about the date of the Mysteries. I think I shall see Brutus, as you write. I want to leave this place on the 30th.
