3 July 44 BCE: To Atticus (at Rome) from Cicero (at Arpinum)
Cicero apologises for making Atticus' daughter sad
[This is the first of two letters from July 3rd.]
As I wrote to you yesterday, I have decided to reach Puteoli on the 7th. So I shall expect letters from you there daily, especially about the games; you must also write to Brutus about them.1 I sent you a copy of his letter yesterday—I myself scarcely know how to interpret it. Please make my excuses to my dear Attica, and take all the blame yourself, and make sure she knows that the love I have for her, which I have carried with me, remains unchanged.
