Around 24 March 58 BCE: From Cicero (en route) to Atticus (in Rome)
Cicero wishes he wasn't alive
I hope I may see the day when I thank you for forcing me to live. For now though, it still hurts me very much.
But I beg you to come to me at Vibo at once. I have changed direction for several reasons and am heading there.1 But if you come there, I shall be able to figure out a plan for my journey as a whole—my escape. If you do not do this, I’ll be shocked. But I trust that you will.

Cicero did not yet know how close to Rome Clodius’ law exiling him would allow him to stay. Cicero’s journey into exile is confusing, but conveniently mapped here (skip to 58 BCE)!
